I finally got the cd of photos from my mom in the mail yesterday
from the opening at the Delta Blues Museum!
My mother met us in Little Rock and then we drove to Clarksdale...
we headed over to the museum to see the show and do some last minute cleaning of glass and frames... the museum has just gotten
a grant and they are putting on a new roof and eventually building a whole new wing... but the roofers were pounding so much
that we had to wipe some dust off the work... no problem with me! I am loving it just being there... it has been my goal for
years now to have my work here...

It was really one of the best nights ever for me... I got to
meet the mayor, the exhibit was on the front page of the newspaper and best of all, Puttin Hatchett was there. He was the
very first person to arrive and was waiting for us as we came in. He first asked me very coldly, "Can you see??"
and my heart froze.. I though he hated the painting I did of him and then he asked again, "Do your eyes work? Can you
see??" I said, I think so... then he pulled out a pair of dice and proceeded to do a "vanish before your eyes"
trick...then a card trick... I about puked from relief and then joy as he walked us right in and went over to the painting..
he really loved it. I am sooooooo thrilled... that made my night, I think if he really had been mad at me I would have had
to leave the opening, at least for a little while to recompose myself. Seeing him was really the main thing I wanted to do
at the opening...
(me being interviewed by Patricia
with the Clarksdale Press Register!)
Such a cool place, I am so lucky
to have my work there!
Daddy Rich performed for the opening and
Johnnie B set in for a bit!
the museum has an education program that
teaches kids about music by local musicians... Bill "Howlin Mad" Perry is one of the teachers, I got to see him
perform the night after my show and took some pics!
Djerek, Me & Mr. Johnson
All the color photos are by my awesome mother! And now I leave you
with this...
The exhibit runs through August 15, 2008! The Delta Blues Museum #1 Blues Alley Clarksdale, Mississippi Much Love!
