My husband Djerek and my favorite thing to do was to drive aimlessly around Northern Mississippi and see what we found. Quite often we would load the dogs into the car and just set out, camera in hand. One day, late in November, we came across Scott Baptist Church. As is very common in the South, there were two stray dogs in the yards around the church that seemed hungry... we always carry food and water for our pups so we proceeded to feed the strays.. the younger one, who must have been a young puppy had a crazy howl, sounded like a scream.. he loved to howl at Layla and Tupelo in a playful way... as Djerek and the dogs were getting to know each other I noticed a storm was brewing, I quickly began to photograph the church and the churning sky above.I was raised in a Southern Baptist church and still have my demons when it comes to the idea of organized religion. I believe my internal struggle manifests itself by my love of photographing old Baptist churches in the South!
